I want to share a preview on my actual design studio aAD (advanced Architecture and Design) at Sint Lucas Hogeschool voor Wetenschap en Kunst. It is a project dealing with the connections between landscape and architecture. The task was to design a “health shelter” for the city of Ghent. My international designteam (April Lim Kim Choon; Malaysia, Robin Julien; Belgium; Román Sarrió Mercadé; Spain, Jana Závodná; Slovakia) reused an abandoned wastewater fascility as a perfect surrounding for such a program. My first comic (so don`t be too critcal),  drawn  in order of a projekt in “Cova da Moura” an suburb area near lisbon, similar to a ghetto. The people who live there, most of them from Cape Verde and the rest of Africa, have  to deal with an area in a very bad condition. Cova da Moura also not enjoys the best reputation in Lisbon and in the media.
For my analyses the most significant thing is, that people spend most of the time on the streets, the most important public space in this case. And thats whats the comic is all about.

These panels are the result of an ideas competition for the austrian town Straßwalchen (in Salzburg). Straßwalchen is a minor city in the low density belt around Salzburg. It consits mainly of two crossing roads. The german word for road “Straße” is in the name included – this city has been facing the problems and benefits of mobilty and traffic since it’s foundation. Our contribution “Die Grüne Welle” won the first price and was presented in town hall to an interested audience.

Strasswalchen will evolve in the future. Our goal is keeping the qualities of this city and improve further groth of the housing areas. The Green Wave is symbol of a sustainable transformation in terms of the two most important factors in the future: energy and environment. We propose targeted interventions in Strasswalchen: A dense residential area with garden plots, a green ring with a variety of recreational opportunities and an energy concept for the huge spaces aquired by the company Lagermax. And a newly designed square in the center, which will form an attractive business area, will give the city a new face. Strasswalchen will be in the flagship in terms of energy and sustainability for the whole region.

The ” Green wave” – a contribution by Cornelia Pirker, Matthias Jäger, C.Mattthias Kügler, Salzburg 2009

The BLOF is a concept developed for the theme of a kind of furniture, only made from eternit. After a competition in order of a workshop, we were asked to produce 35 “BLOF`s” for the company itself.
The concept is simple – Eternit common used as a board – put in a completly other form, to produce a cube wich is individual and special for itself but also compatible in the use with many of them. The BLOF is multifunctional in its usage – and leaves space for many opportunities for a possible handling.

Did this project togehter with Andrea Bretter, Barbara Birgfellner, Miraim Nascemento and Marton Toth.

This is a small video I did with Google Sketchup. It’s only a surface with a rastered, yellow pattern. The camera is slowly moving and changing the point of view. Due to the overlay of different rasters (the screen raster of the computer monitor & the yellow raster) comes the mighty moire effect into force.

Nach fortschreitender Vereinheitlichung unserer Universität, der TU Graz, scheint es an der Natur der Zeit auch der Vielfältigkeit wieder Raum zu geben. Deshalb haben wir unserer Universität diese beiden Bäume zum Geschenk gemacht. Sie stehen an der alten Stelle zweier ehemaliger Bäume, die ihren Lebenszyklus vollendet haben. Mögen sie viele Generationen Früchte tragen und Freude bereiten.

Inzwischen wurden die beiden gepflanzten Bäume ausgerissen. (2 Stunden nachdem sie aufgestllt wurden). Auf der Webseite http://dieserbaumistunser.com kann man sich die drei Teile unserer Videodokumentation ansehen.

This survey for a public space was created together with Matthias Jäger and Conni Pirker during an ideas competition for the cityscape renewal of Salzburg’s community Strasswalchen.

We created a grid that fluently conforms to spatial structures and movement.

Zusammen mit Martin Kern (kmkg) habe ich für die Aufnahmeparty im Architeturzeichensaal 4 eine Lichtinstallation entwickelt, die einerseits die einzige große Lichtquelle im Raum war und andererseits pulsierend auf die Musik reagiert hat. Das Motiv waren 9 große in einer Reihe angeordnete Balken hinter denen das Licht, 9 DMX gesteuerte Power LED, auf die gegenüber liegende weiße Wand heraus gestrahlt hat. Interessant war, dass man mit ein und demselben Setting immer wieder anders auf die Stimmung der Musik reagieren konnte und so sehr “räumliche” und intensive Visuals möglich waren.

These are some photoshop-collages I did for the architect´s office I´m working in. There was an invited competition some colleges of mine were working on (a gigantic luxury-hotel-casino-spa-complex for damn rich russian tourists) and I helped them out with some graphics. They should illustrate the way through the building and show the athmosphere.

Für gewöhnlich werden Irrlichter von Geistern, den Irrwischen und anderen Sagengestalten erzeugt um Wanderer in die Irre zu führen. Mit ihrer Installation IRRLICHTER wollen die Künstler kmkg, Matthias Jäger und Xaver Kettele ein wenig vom gespenstisch flackernden Flair dieser Phänomene in den Ausstellungsraum übertragen. In kompletter Dunkelheit wird dabei eine Annordnung von Leuchtstoffröhren von den Künstlern bewusst zum Flackern und zum Flimmern gebracht. Die dabei entstehende Stromspannungen in den Leuchtkörpern werden von speziellen Mikrofonen abgenommen und zu einer verdichtenden Geräuschkulisse arrangiert.

Das Video wurde bei den Proben und der Präsentation für unsere Performance während dem GAD Award (Grazer Architektur Diplompreis) aufgenommen.

I recently went to an architectural workshop with Marcelo Spina and selected students from SCI-ARC university and TU Graz at Günter Domenigs Steinhaus. We did some projects on the topic “House as a manifesto”, which where presented at MAK Center in Vienna.

just found this while sorting my pictures and thought it may suit to the recent post – an instant “bauteilaktivierung” on my last visit to graz (march 08) – one (fake?) sandstone in the aula space of the TU Graz was set into vast illumination – slowly shifting the alpha value of the projected white rectangle from 0 to 1 to produce a seemingly glowing brick… (here a link from a project of last year which may put some more light into this…. > gp)

Structured (digital) light merged with built matter – an augmented material study which evoke throughout a series of projections in public spaces. The pixel (still) forms the smallest entity of a grid (raster) produced by a digital projector and the amount of pixel (resolution) is being raised by technological development to gain more precision and realistic images. Projection-screens are produced to generate perfect conditions for displaying the thrown light points and let them appear as one single (motion) picture for the human eye…

[60x60px] ON PLASTER is a first output of a series of materials merged with 3600 of those light points arranged in the uniform shape of a square featuring virtually all colors at the same time (r=255, g=255, b=255) – The “perfect little square structure” of the pixels produced by the machine in combination with the “organic rough surface” of the physical material results in new patterns. The interest in this “material study” evoke out of projections within given / found situations – throwing light on facades, floors, streets, trees and everything else that can be found in public spaces. Regard it as sort of detailing and learning to know ones instruments and their properties…. [work in progress]

For a project within the scope of my study of architecture at the TU-Graz I have formed a primeval landscape from plasticine. It shows the “Grazer Becken” without cultivation, traffic routes or human interventions. Only only the river “Mur”, the valleys and hills become decisive elements in this configuration…

On city consits of puplic areas and  buildings. The space between the buildings is multiple used. The street. Especially in Sevilla the life is happening on the street. On the street children make there first experiences in the real world and start to explore space. This is the place when they leave there cosy home and get out into the real world. Interaction with people, other kids, cars , animals, trees, al different aspects of live…..

Take the street and shape it into a building. All parts of the street! Cars, trashcans, zebrcrossings, trees, restaurants, etc….etc…..

This is the result of a recent architectural workshop I’ve attended at university. The task was (well known among fellow students) to create a building for the local kayak club on the riverbank of the Mur in Graz. The concept was solely done in SketchUp.

Visualisierungen und Modell für mein E1-Projekt zum Thema “Budget-Hotel + Studentenwohnheim in Sibiu, Rumänien”. Zur Darstellung der Oberflächenmaterialien habe ich mich für eine Collage entschieden, weil die haptische Ästhetik dem Entwurf näher liegt als ein Rendering.

inspiriet von der software space syntax und den arbeiten von bill hillier wurde ein aus den strassennetz vorgegebener stadtraster von 15x15meter mit zwei visuellen schritten verformt . In space syntax wird visueller schritt als richtungsänderung verstanden bei der durchquerung eines physischen raumes. Wie oft muss ich die richtung ändern wegen eines hindernisses (visuelle hindernisse) um durch einen bestimmtes raum zu gehen. Laut bill hillier ist sind sichtverbindungen bei der durchquerung von räumen ausschlaggebender als wege ( man beobachte zb. wegführungen und ihre abkürzungen ). Um Raum spannend zu gestalten bedarf es zwei wechselwirkungen zwischen axialen raum(eindimensionaler raum, schmale gasse) und konvexen raum ( zweidimesionaler raum , platz). Ein script dazu wäre eine schöne sache… ..;)
